Although you can obtain an employment application via this internet site, the GCSPD does not accept applications submitted electronically. Nor do we accept faxed applications. All applications must be notarized originals - no copies, faxes or emailed attachments.
Brief Description of Duties
A police officer's work involves protecting the lives and property of the general public by patrol, investigating suspicious persons and activity, responding to and investigating criminal complaints, responding to disturbance calls with physical violence in progress, responding to calls involving traffic crashes, injuries, disasters, arresting people in the commission of crimes, traffic pursuits and stops, utilizing firearms and being proficient with their use and attending county and circuit court for cases.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of approved law enforcement training and certification in compliance with the requirements of the State of Florida. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, high school diploma or GED, citizen of the United States, no felony convictions, no misdemeanor convictions involving perjury or false statements and be of good moral character. Must pass a drug and physical examination.
Physical Effort Required
Police officers may be required to use bodily force to gain control of prisoners, be able to run, protect him/herself by employing defensive tactics and administer first aid. Performance of these tasks can involve maximum physical exertion with little or no prior notice and possible for extended periods of time. Must be able to complete the Police Physical Abilities Test within the acceptable time. The PAT is designed to simulate actual physical tasks that any police officer might be called upon to perform during the course of duty.
