Around 3:30 am officers were dispatched to the Kangaroo Store in the 1500 block of Idlewild Avenue for a reported drunk driver. The caller said the driver of a green truck had struck a pole in the parking lot of the store and then driven south on Oakridge Avenue.
An officer in the area caught up to the truck within one block of it leaving and began watching the driving patterns of the driver. The officer observed the truck swerving and weaving across the center line several times.
A traffic stop was conducted in the 600 block of Oakridge Avenue. When the officer approached the driver he noticed the driver's eyes were red and watery. The driver was very talkative, but her speech was slurred and thick tongued.
When asked if she had been drinking, she said she had drank about 8 beers.
The driver was given a series of field sobriety exercises, which she could not successfully complete. The driver, 63 year old Margaret H. Haddix, was arrested for DUI and booked into jail. Once at the jail, Haddix was given an intoxilyzer test. The results were .118% and .117%.
